SUPER MONKEY BALL 3D Company: Sega Release: March 27, 2011 ESRB: E (Cartoon Violence) June 3, 2012 Well, it's Super Monkey Ball for the 3DS. I'm kind of new to the whole Super Monkey Ball thing, I have the game for the N-Gage, but haven't played it that much. I'm really digging the go-kart minigame, though. Sega apparently put 9 whole tracks on here, but in order to save your best time on the tracks, you have to beat the computer's best times (yep, one of those types of games.) Anyway, the actual monkey ball game concept is quite simple: move the course around to guide the ball to the goal without falling off the course. It's like those old wooden labyrinth games with a marble and knobs, only with a joystick (or gyroscope sensor if you choose) and a ball with a monkey inside of it. Getting thirty bananas nets you another chance, and like the Super Mario games, bananas carry over into the next courses. Even though I have only played through level 1 and that has rails, I'm suspecting that later ones don't have rails and therefore will be quite tricky. At least there are no boss stages where you have to beat a boss. If you want to fight, however, the other minigame would be good, as it is a fighter. Three games in one, quite the interesting package. rating: 7/10
