Old Bus Schedules

Yes, what Cherriots fun museum wouldn't be complete without vintage examples of old bus schedules? Let's take a look at Route 11 back in 1988:

Notice back then that even Route 11, which goes down Lancaster Drive (and not to the bus station) is every hour, and that the bus schedule here is in color, unlike the cheap black and white schedules we have today. This might raise some questions for the kids of Salem out there. "Why do you have old bus schedules?" "What is K-Mart doing on Lancaster Drive?" Well, to completely avoid the first question, there used to be a K-Mart on Portland Road. I think it's now a bingo hall. Plus, you'll also notice Keizer Park & Ride on here. The route would turn off of Lancaster and meander its way down Hyacinth, 18th, Verda Lane, Chemawa Road, River Road, Trail Ave (where I used to live), and eventually get to the Willamette Lutheran Home, way out on Wheatland Road. Why it would do that, I have absolutely have no idea, but it did. Now, here's route 14, Sunnyridge, in October of 1990:

Notice this bus runs every half hour on weekdays and every hour on Saturdays, and the color is green. Is there some kind of green cherry we don't know about? And notice the fares on these: Children age 5 and under: FREE! Adults only 50 cents (now a dollar), and notice the phone #: Still the same (except NOW you dial a 503. Lousy phone regulators) Although, you don't spell bus with 2 s's, it's still easier to remember than something like 4928 or something.

Yes, the route we know today as Liberty Road was once called Boone Road, which really makes a lot more sense because most of the route is on Liberty Road. This is the oldest of the three bus schedules I have, and it's green again. What's with the green? It'll make people think the O in the logo is an apple!

Here's the recently departed Turner Road route. Hard times fell on the economy and Cherriots wasn't immune, so they had to drop a few routes. Unfortunately, the Turner Road route was one of the victims. I don't know why, since the route had a lot of important stops: The Wal-Mart on Turner Road, Lakeside Village & Paradise Island, and the Humane Society.
